BMW M3

Improved by BMW’s alteration division BMW M, this car is an elevated performance edition of the BMW 3 Series. M3 models itself have been resulted from E30, E36, E46 and E90/E92/E93 3-series and sold with coupé, sedan and convertible body styles. The car has more powerful and responsive engines, developed handling/suspension/braking systems, aerodynamic body enhancements and occupied interior/exterior accents with the tri-color "M" (Motor sport) symbol.

Car designs

The first type of BMW M3 is E30 M3. The specifications are 2-door coupe and 2-door convertible of its body style, 2.3 L I4 of the engine, 5-speed manual transmission, 101.1 in (2568 mm) of wheelbase, curb weight as 1,300 kg. Overall, the engine model is based on basic block layout of M10 4 cylinder over bored and toughened with similar specifications of the BMW M88 inline-6. The valve train and head architecture is from BMW's M1 and M6 inline-6 cylinder is implemented for forceful gasping. The bodywork of E30 M3 is equipped with a modified stiffer and more aerodynamic body shell as well as "box flared" wheel-arches to lodge a wider track with wider and taller wheels and tires. In its suspension, E30 M3 has augmented caster angle through the changes of major front suspension. Therefore, M3 has specific solid rubber offset control arm bushings. In addition, the brake uses in E30 M3 is that special front and rear brake calipers and rotors. It also has a special brake master cylinder. In the driveline, E30 M3 has a Getrag 265/5 5-speed gearbox and rear differential with 4.10:1 final-drive ratio and 25% lockup. Overall, the performance of E30 performance as follows: (2.3 L-16v I4) - 195 PS (143 kW; 192 hp) - 0-62 mph: 6.9 s. Top Speed: 146 mph (235 km/h); (2.3 L-16v I4) - 215 PS (158 kW; 212 hp) - 0-62 mph: 6.7 s, top speed: 149 mph (240 km/h) and (2.5 L-16v I4) - 238 PS (175 kW; 235 hp) - 0-60 mph: 6.1 s, top speed: 154 mph (248 km/h). The next is BMW E36 M3. The specifications are 4-door sedan, 2-door coupe and 2-door convertible of body style, 3.0 L I6 (1995) and 3.2 L I6 of engine, 5-speed automatic, 5-speed manual, 6-speed manual and 6 Speed SMG of transmission, 106.3 in (2700 mm) and for convertible: 106.7 in (2710 mm) of wheelbase and its curb weight is 1,460 kg (3,219 lb) and for convertible: 1,560 kg (3,439 lb). The performance of this models are as follows for Euro version of 3.0 L-24v I6 by its power 210 kW (286 PS; 282 hp), from 0–60 mph it can be reached in 5.4 s by top speed is 155 mph (249 km/h) and US version’s power of 179 kW (243 PS; 240 hp), in 5.6 s, it can reach 0-60 mph by its top speed is 137mph (220 km/h). Thus, For Euro version of 3.2 L-24v by its power is I6236 kW (321 PS; 316 hp), the 0-60mph can be reached 5.2 s with top speed is 155 mph (249 km/h) and for US version of 179 kW (243 PS; 240 hp) of power, 0-60s can be reached in 5.5 s with 139 mph (224 km/h) of top speed. The second is BMW E46 M3. The engine can produce 343 horsepower (256 kW) and 365 N•m (269 lb•ft). Moreover, E46 M3 provides with a standard 6-speed Getrag transmission with an electro hydraulically activated clutch pedal. Shifts are made via the SMG gear knob or the steering wheel mounted paddle shifters. The engine had a redline of 8,000 rpm. The performance of this design are as follows for Euro models, it has 343 PS (252 kW; 338 hp) @ 7900 rpm, the torque is 365 N•m (269 lb•ft) @ 4900 rpm and for 0-100 km/h (62 mph), it can be reAched at 5.1 s for Manual and SMG, 5.5 s for cabriolet and 1/4 Mile reaches at 13.3 s @ 104 mph (167.4 km/h) by its top speed is 155 mph (249 km/h) and 174 mph (280 km/h) and the skid pad is 0.89g. While, the US models has 333 hp (248 kW; 338 PS), the torque is 262 lb•ft (355 N•m), of 0-100 km/h (62 mph), it can be reached at 4.8 seconds for Manual and SMG is 5.6 seconds for cabriolet and 1/4 Mile for Coupe is 13.0 sec @ 104 mph (167 km/h) and for convertible is 13.7 sec @ 104 mph (167 km/h) by its top speed, for coupe, is 155 mph (249 km/h) and 170 mph (270 km/h), thus the skid pad, for coupe is 0.89g and convertible is 0.81g. Then, the design is BMW E90/92/93 M3. The engine is similar with BMW S65 engine. It has aspirated, high-revving 4-litre V8 (based on the S85B50 5-litre V10 that powers the E60/E61 M5 and the E63/E64 M6 to date), delivering 414 bhp (309 kW; 420 PS) at 8300 rpm with peak torque at 295 lb•ft (400 N•m) at 3900 rpm performing a power increase of 22% over the E46 M3. The engine has 15 kg (33 lb) of weight less than the outgoing six cylinder for a total weight of 202 kg (450 lb). A six-speed manual transmission is standard. As from April 2008, BMW offers a new Getrag double-clutch gearbox, called M-DKG (Doppel-Kupplungs-Getriebe) or M-DCT (Double Clutch Transmission) as an option decreasing shift pauses to less than a tenth of a second and shortens the car's 0-100 km/h (62 mph) sprint time by 0.2 seconds vs. manual. It features both automatic and manual modes similar to the SMG gearboxes in the E36 and E46, but with more speed and efficiency. The E92 M3 coupe inherited a carbon-fiber roof similar to the one used on the E46 CSL. The new M3 is again available as a 4-door sedan. It does not get the coupé's carbon-fiber roof and is 22 lb (10 kg) heavier. The M3 Sedan is powered by the same engine as the other two versions. The four-door (E90) is equipped with six-speed manual transmission. Thus, the convertible uses a power retractable hardtop which adds 441 lb (200 kg) to the weight of the car, bringing the total to 4,145 lb (1,880 kg) with a considerable negative impact on the convertible's overall performance. The convertible features a special leather surface for the seats that reflect sunlight to reduce the tendency of seats to become uncomfortably hot with the top down. Overall, the performance of E90, E92, and E93 are as follows 0-60 is in 3.9 sec. (2011 E90/E92 w/ M-DCT trans), 1/4 mile is in 12.4 sec. @ 114 mph. (2011 E90/E92 w/ M-DCT Trans), 0-60 is in 5.1 sec. (2009 E93 Convertible w/ M-DCT trans), 1/4 mile is in 13.1 @ 109 mph. (2009 E93 Convertible w/ M-DCT Trans), the top speed is in 155 mph and ~290 km/h (180 mph)+, the skid pad is 0.98 g and the fuel consumption is 12.4 L/100 km (22.8 mpg-imp; 19.0 mpg-US).
