Citroën DS

In 1955 and 1975, Citroën, French automobile manufacturer, produced an executive car. Seen from its style and bodywork, Citroen DS was popular for its aerodynamic revolutionary body design and novel technology compricing of its hydro pneumatic self-leveling suspension. The production of Citroen DS comprises of several models, such as 1974 Citroën DS23 Pallas – Series 3 (1968–1976), Citroën DS Break (known as the Safari, Familiale or Wagon), Citroën DS Series 1 (1955–1962) with original nose and Citroën DS Convertible Series 2 (1963–1967) with remodel nose.

Car specification

The Citroen DS, as conventional cars, has technical discovery through its development. The first innovation is hydraulic systems. It is used in brakes, power steering, suspension, clutch and transmission. Then, for the design, this car preserves its size and is shaped by ease removable and unstressed body panels. In the suspension, the model uses hydro pneumatic suspension system, where every wheel is connected to a hydraulic suspension unit including an area about 12 cm in diameter including pressurized nitrogen. The cylinder containing hydraulic liquid attached to the suspension sphere, a piston within the cylinder linked by levers to the suspension itself as well as constraint valve between the piston and the area. The car uses air-cooled flat-six based on the blueprint of the 2-cylinder engine of the 2CV. The original DS 19 engine is old-fashioned. It came from the engine of the 11CV Traction Avant (models 11B and 11C). The engine had OHV four-cylinder engine with three main bearings and dry liners and a bore of 78 mm (3.1 in) as well as a stroke of 100 mm (3.9 in). Later on, DS 21 model uses 2175 cc with n bearing engine. In addition, on DS 23 model equips with 2347 cc engine producing 143 hp (107 kW).
